Alison is a contemporary artist based in Portishead, North Somerset and is fascinated by the emotional landscape within us and the natural landscape around us.
The influence of having been a professional midwife for many years has naturally communicated to her art. Experiencing how creatively the world turns. A pendulum of nature’s energy always changing the seasons of life, nature and landscapes. A Growing, flowing, blooming, adapting and fragmenting that form part of who we are, and our place in the world. In recent years Alison has taken a deeper dive into painting and exhibiting and sharing her work. Alison describes her technique as “happily and unapologetically rebellious”. As a qualified trauma resolution midwife Alison is passionate about the healing and therapeutic role that art plays in our everyday lives; and connecting to that creative part of ourselves can have life enhancing effects. Mainly self-taught and free of formality Alison combines her love of colour, design, energy and Joy into her work. Using acrylic paint, inks, pastels and other mixed media. Each piece has multiple layers. Building and excavating. Sketching, scraping and sanding. Each painting is unique and takes on many thoughtful forms and unfolding until it finds its completion. Her work has an exciting sense of exploration. Her most recent series has focused on the landscape around the Marina in Portishead. As a lover of sailing, her work explores the energy of the lock gates and movement of the boats, the masts reflected in the water and the industrial maritime heritage. Alison is a regular at the coffee shops around the Marina with sketch book and pencils in hand gathering creative ideas. |
