Until: 23rd April 2022 "FRACTURES" Using the Japanese technique of Kurinuki*, this collection was initially based on architecture. When sculpting my feelings start in my head and heart and flow out through my hands. The clay takes on its own form and grows and develops. Here they have formed fragments of the monoliths of the buildings from which they had started and in doing so have returned back to almost geological features. * Kurinuki translates in Japanese 'to hollow' and is a traditional technique to make pottery from carving away from a single block of clay. Hollowing out clay in this way is a slow and meditative process that produces truly unique one-of-a-kind ceramics that can never be repeated.
