Susannah Crook

I am a land inspired artist living near the coast in North Somerset. Using natural earth, mineral and botanical pigments, that I source and grow myself, my aim is to evoke the timeless geology of our landscape. The view across the estuary, the rock formations along the coast, and the ancient markings within those rocks is my inspiration. Becoming a more ecologically aware artist, using sustainable materials as much as I can, has become a natural part of my practice.

Working mindfully and often intuitively, marking the seasonal turn of the year, allows for a deeper connection to the land. Walking, observing, gathering earth, sieving earth, making paint and then painting, inspired by that same landscape, is a grounding, cyclical process.

Through my work I hope to offer a quiet moment of reflection, both a grounding and an awakening; a ‘deep time’ connection to the land.
