I am concerned with the world's most pressing issues namely
climate change and the loss of nature. We are intrinsically reliant on nature for our wellbeing and survival therefore it is essential we understand the implications so we can make Important and urgent changes to the way we live. My creative work reflects my perspective in today's world particularly the harm we cause. Drawing helps me visualise my initial ideas which then materialise as sculptures. Instead of using traditional materials I use discarded materials to repurpose into art. My purpose is to put a positive spin on something that's negative in the hope it will focus others, making them aware of how big the problem is. Using found things provides me with the challenge of creating completely unique pieces from the worn out, broken and unwanted while giving regard to truth to materials. Litter picking benefits the natural environment and reduces the threat to wildlife. Maintaining a 'business as usual' mentality and lifestyle cannot be sustained the less we waste the less demand we place on finite resources and the less we encourage the manufacture of more stuff. The recent upsurge of climate change movements has raised our awareness and I would like to encourage a healthier and happier environment through my work and inspire others to be more creative and waste less. |
