KnitnatterstitchFrom: 3rd November 2021
Until: 2nd February 2022 The three of us met when we used to volunteer at ‘Heartspace Studio’ a local artists workshop and gift shop selling artists work that used to be in Westbury Park. When ‘Heart Space Studios’ moved we decided to get together and continue to share our common love of all things creative. Paula picked up the reigns of the knit and stitch club that still meet on a Wednesday in term time in the ‘Coffee bar at Henleaze United reformed church ‘ and the three of us were in our element being creative so we decided to call the club knitnatterstitch’ where we now have approximately 23 members. It is infact only the three of us that produce the items that we sell and we use the ‘knitnatterstitch’ name in sewing projects that all of us have been involved in. The items that we have solely made ourselves go under ‘Paula New’, ‘Jane-Marie Mahy’ or ilaria Padovani ‘Under the Elm Tree’. We do however love to swap ideas with each other and ensure we use similar fabrics, textures and colour ways to make sure we have a cohesive range of items to sell. It’s that time of the year when we really look forward to being Guest artists and part of the team of amazing artists that show at Studio 3. Come and see Knitnatterstitch’s work at Studio 3 Gallery |
Paula New
My whole career has been as an early years teacher where I enjoyed the natural creativity of the children and it allowed me to indulge in many of my creative ideas too which I now enjoy using whilst also leading the ‘Knitnatterstitch’ Club.
I now get the chance to work alongside Ilaria and Jane-Marie on projects where we can bounce ideas off each other and share each other’s experience. I have been really enjoying working with freehand machine embroidery. There is nothing I love more than pottering around my garden, so I have loved bringing the ‘Botanics’ theme of this years range alive using the fabulous Poppy seed heads and Alliums among others as reference. |
Under the Elm Tree (Ilaria Padovani)
Spending many hours with my Grandma whilst growing up in Italy I learned very fast to get things right !!!
If I didn’t, Sew, Knit or Crotchet the right way, the work had to be undone and remade until perfect. It was that eye for perfection that has now led me into my main job, as part of a team, to make promotional quilts for Kaffe Fassett, to be shown in his books. So when I get the chance to, I love to make one of a kind handmade items using natural fabrics and innovative designs using the skills I learnt from my Grandma. Nothing pleases me more than gifting something to someone that I have made…. https://instagram.com/undertheelmtreedesigns?utm_medium=copy_link Christmas is always a busy time of the year. |

With a background as Display Manager for John Lewis, there is nothing more than I love to do than being creative.
With Paula and Ilaria by my side the amount of fun and time we spend bouncing ideas off each other I am surprised we ever get round to making anything. This years theme, Botanics, has been fabulous to be part of for me as I love to Garden and work with Flowers as one half of https://bestofthebunch.co.uk/ Which I love to use my own allotment British grown flowers in. So all round it’s been a win win time of late and what topped it off was getting my dream T2 Vintage Camper van at the beginning of the year… what more is there for a girl to want !!! We hope you enjoy a visit to Studio 3 and love our range of Botanical influenced Handcrafted items as much as we enjoyed making them. |
