Stephen LisneyFrom: 10th November 2022
Until: 11th January 2023 Stephen Lisney is a self-taught printmaker experimenting with various techniques, including dry point engraving; white-line woodcut; and reduction linocut. He enjoys the fact that each method brings its own unique character to the final image, and he tries to take advantage of this to make attractive and interesting pictures. More recently, he has been experimenting with painted constructions. Influences on his work include the early 20th C illustrators of private press books, the linocut prints of the Grosvenor School artists, the St. Ives Modernists, and the work of the Clevedon-based painter Doris Hatt (1890-1969), whose work deserves to be better known.
